Day 1 Tour commencement - Darwin City Tour
Upon your arrival in Darwin today you will be met and greeted by our friendly and professional tour director and tour driver. This afternoon enjoy a city sights tour including the Darwin National Museum, Cullen Bay, Fannie Bay and Stokes Hill Wharf. We check in to the Mantra Esplanade Hotel later this afternoon. The Mantra is one of Darwin's premier hotels in the best location, overlooking Darwin Harbour to the Arafura Sea.Day 2 Litchfield National Park - Jabiru
This morning we depart Darwin and head south to Litchfield National Park, where numerous waterfalls cascade off the Tabletop Ranges into tranquil water holes. Enjoy visits to Florence Falls and Wangi Falls and inspect some massive magnetic termite mounds. We then visit the Territory Wildlife Park which features a walk-through aquarium. Enjoy meeting some of the Top End's most amazing aquatic life.After lunch we depart for Jabiru. En route we stop off at the Mamukala Wetlands Bird Aviary, where we are able to see unique Kakadu birdlife up close in the wild. We continue on to Jabiru arriving late afternoon at the Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn, Kakadu. Enjoy 2 nights in this luxurious landmark hotel.
Day 3 Ubirr Rock - Arnhem Land - Jabiru
This morning we head out to Ubirr Rock for spectacular views over the Arnhem Land floodplains. Ubirr is also home to some magnificent Aboriginal art sites. Later this morning we ford the East Alligator River and venture into Arnhem Land. Drive across the lush floodplains before arriving in Oenpelli for a visit to the Injalak Arts & Crafts Association. Admire the techniques of local artists as they create exquisite pieces of work right in front of you. The artwork is available for purchase.This afternoon we return to Jabiru for a relaxing afternoon.
Alternatively you can take a scenic flight to see Kakadu National Park and the Arnhem Land Plateau from the air. Flights start at $140 for 30 minutes and must be pre-booked with our office.
Day 4 Kakadu National Park - Katherine
Today we depart Jabiru and make our way to Cooinda for our 90 minute cruise on Yellow Waters Billabong, an extensive wetlands area at the end of Jim Jim Creek. Experience this diverse and sublimely beautiful area and its associated wildlife from your canopied cruise boat. Following the cruise enjoy a picnic lunch and a visit to the Warradjan Cultural Centre.This afternoon we depart Kakadu National Park and journey south west towards Katherine where we spend the night at the All Seasons Hotel.
Day 5 Katherine River Gorge - Kununurra
Today we begin with the renowned Katherine River Gorge cruise in Nitmiluk National Park. This stunning cruise operates for approximately 2 hours. Afterwards enjoy a visit to the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre, followed by some morning tea. We then begin our trek west to Kununurra along the Victoria Highway. We arrive late in the afternoon and check-in to the refurbished Kununurra Country Club, set in lush gardens in the middle of town.Day 6 Ord River Cruise - El Questro
This morning we enjoy a 3 hour cruise up the Ord River from Lake Kununurra to the dam wall of Lake Argyle. This exhilarating cruise passes through a variety of different landscapes and is another highlight of the tour. Upon conclusion of the cruise we board our coach and drive back to Kununurra via the Durack Homestead Museum.Arriving back into Kununurra late morning we enjoy a tour of the township, followed by lunch and some free time in the town centre. This afternoon we take a drive across the Ivanhoe plains and learn about the Ord River Irrigation Scheme. We then depart Kununurra and make our way to the world renowned El Questro Wilderness Park. We arrive at approximately 4.30pm and spend the next 2 nights at Emma Gorge Resort.
Day 7 Chamberlain Gorge - Zebedee Springs
Today we explore El Questro, beginning with an early morning champagne breakfast cruise on Chamberlain Gorge. This is without doubt one of the highlights of the tour, and is worth getting up a little earlier for! After our cruise we visit Zebedee Thermal Springs for a revitalizing swim amongst the Livingstonia Palms.This afternoon we return to Emma Gorge and indulge in a gourmet lunch before enjoying a free afternoon. Relax by the pool, enjoy a drink at the bar or take the walk up to the Emma Gorge waterfall (good level of fitness required). Either way, you are sure to appreciate some time to yourself in this magnificent Kimberley setting.
Day 8 El Questro - Bungle Bungles
This morning we depart El Questro Wilderness Park en route to Wyndham. Enjoy a visit to Five Rivers Lookout which offers panoramic views over the 5 major rivers that flow into Cambridge Gulf. After morning tea we head down the Great Northern Highway to one of the most unique areas of Western Australia, the Purnululu National Park (better known simply as the Bungle Bungles). The park is World Heritage Listed and is characterised by its rustic, beehive-shaped sandstone domes. We spend two nights in the Park at the Bellburn Wilderness Camp. Accommodation here is in permanent tented cabins which have been upgraded for 2010. Each cabin now has ensuite facilities.Day 9 Exploring the Bungle Bungles
Today is spent exploring various parts of the Bungle Bungles including the breathtaking Cathedral Gorge and Echidna Chasm. Learn about the fascinating geology of the region and be inspired by the beauty and remoteness of the area. We return to Bellburn Wilderness Camp mid-afternoon for our final night in Purnululu National Park.
Day 10 Halls Creek - Fitzroy Crossing
This morning we depart the Bungle Bungles and head back to the Great Northern Highway. We journey south to Halls Creek and also visit Old Halls Creek, where the original gold mining settlement once was. After lunch we continue on to Fitzroy Crossing for our overnight stay at the Fitzroy River Lodge.Day 11 Geikie Gorge - Tunnel Creek - Windjana Gorge - Derby
This morning we enjoy a one-hour cruise on Geikie Gorge. This vast river transports huge volumes of water out into King George Sound during the wet season. The gorge itself is fascinating and its existence is related to an ancient sea bed where fossils can still be found.After the cruise we depart Fitzroy Crossing and head for the Tunnel Creek National Park. Enjoy the walk through the 750m underground river to the opening on the other side of the reef. (Walk is optional).
After visiting Tunnel Creek we continue for another 40 kms to the Windjana Gorge National Park. Windjana Gorge has been created as a result of the Lennard River cutting its way through the limestone of the Napier Range. In some places the walls of the gorge stand up to 100m above the wide alluvial floodplain below. The gorge is teeming with wildlife including freshwater crocodiles and many different bird species. This afternoon we continue our journey to Derby for our overnight stay at the King Sound Resort.
Day 12 Boab Prison Tree - Broome
This morning we take a town tour of Derby. Visit the Boab Prison Tree, a large hollow Boab tree believed to be 1500 years old that was used by police as a lock-up for prisoners. We also visit Myalls Bore and Cattle Trough, the Derby Jetty and the Old Derby Gaol.Later this morning we depart Derby en route to Broome, stopping off at the Willie Creek Pearl Farm for an informative tour. Here we discover how the Australian South Sea Pearl is produced. This afternoon we continue into Broome and take an informative town tour before checking in to the Broome Sanctuary Resort, Cable Beach. We head down to the beach for a spectacular sunset before dinner.
Day 13 Broome Sightseeing
This morning enjoy a visit to the Pearl Luggers Museum for an insight into Broome's pearling history. Afterwards enjoy some free time in Chinatown. This afternoon can be spent at your leisure. We will once again head down to Cable Beach late in the afternoon for another beautiful sunset. Tonight we enjoy our final dinner together at Zanders Restaurant on Cable Beach.Day 14 Broome - Home Ports
This morning the tour concludes after breakfast. You will be transferred to the airport or to your accommodation if you are staying on in Broome. Bon Voyage!
