MORETON TELEGRAPH STATION
Situated 750 kilometres north of Cairns, Moreton Telegraph Station served as a repeater station for the Overland Telegraph Line, which was completed in 1887. The station enjoys a tranquil location on the banks of the Wenlock River, home to more fresh water fish than any other river in Australia. It’s also home to the odd Croc, so keep your toes out of the water!
With the need for modern accommodation between Weipa and the tip of Cape York, Outback Spirit entered into a partnership with a local tour operator and installed 12 new rooms at Moreton in 2010. Each air-conditioned cabin offers comfortable bedding and ensuite bathrooms. Meals are served on the Linesman Deck where you can share your adventures after a day discovering the delights of the region.
